Kygo (Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll) is a prominent EDM artist who you probably know from his hits Firestone, or It Ain’t Me with Selena Gomez. I have a personal love for Kygo as I've been listening to him since he only had a few remixes on Soundcloud... before his meteoric rise to fame.

His style is unique and focuses on uplifting, positive tunes. These melodies incite a feeling of warmness, of vacation. I remember listening to his remix of Sexual Healing during the dark, cold winter months in Ottawa and I swear to you, I felt warmer.

Many people consider him a tropical house artist. So much so that he has been touted as the king of tropical house. He was one of the first pioneers of that genre although, he admits he doesn't consider himself a tropical house specialist but simply, a ‘musician’.

What’s special about Kygo is his training in classical music. He’s been playing piano since the age of 6 and always returns to his roots when creating new music. Perhaps that’s how he gets his unique sound.

Although I prefer his remixes and singles, his album ‘Cloud Nine’ is game changing. It's the result of his burning desire to prove himself as an EDM artist. It took 2 years to make and he specifically believes that his song Not Alone shows his versatility as a producer.

It is emotional and honest. Have a listen here.

His love for all kinds of music and his classical roots make him stand out from the other producers. In an interview he mentioned that he loves talent, and when looking for a vocalist he disregards big names because he simply has a love for collaboration.

If you’ve been keeping up with him he’s been reaching out to bigger names (Selena Gomez, Ellie Goulding). In past interviews he has even mentioned his love for the Weeknd’s voice, so look out for a collab in the near future!

Kygo has gone a long way in 2 years: from being the fastest-ever artist to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify, to being on the Ellen show, to releasing his own album. He even has his own festival in his hometown of Bergen, Norway! Keep an eye out for him. He’s definitely a great artist and his reign as king of tropical house is only beginning. Trust me when I say you’re going to want to be around for the ride!
