The Chainsmokers are Great for EDM - 6 Reasons Why

Many avid EDM supporters have a problem with the Chainsmokers simply for the fact that they are too mainstream. Well guess what. That's a good thing!
Yes their music is very catchy, and yes they do often stick to simple beats...but is there anything wrong with that? They cater to the audience who likes the dancing aspect of EDM but may not be into those-hard hitting drops.
In this post I outline 6 reasons why the Chainsmokers are great for EDM.
1. The Chainsmokers Make Bangers
First Selfie, then Roses and Don't Let me Down. Don't even get me started with Closer, and they've recently followed it up with Paris and Something Just Like This in 2017. They just keep giving and producing great music, the vast majority of which can be appreciated by music lovers of other genres. I cannot stress this enough - hit songs start to put EDM on people's radar and the Chainsmokers becoming successful is a sign that this genre of music is really here to stay and not just a niche sound.
2. They Don't Care How Their Music is Labelled.
Many DJs really want to stick to a certain genre of EDM and even go as far to create different aliases (e.g. the duo W&W created NYWR as their trance music alias). Now there is nothing wrong with this, but it is refreshing that the duo isn't concerned about the genre of music they produce, but instead focus on producing great tracks. Andrew Taggart interprets their musical style as "blurring the lines between indie, pop music, dance music, and hip-hop."

3. Chainsmokers' Live Sets are LIT
I've been lucky enough to see them perform at Veld Music Festival in 2016 and this picture honestly does not do them justice. The Chainsmokers just bring another level of energy to their live performances which other DJs don't. They truly step it up a gear and employ a mix of athletic jumps and fire beats to really get the crowd going. Andrew Taggart (left) sings and he's not half-bad. They've already started to incorporate some live vocals into their performances and it really sets them apart from all the other behind-the-deck DJs.
4. Closer
Never in all my 21 years (yes I know that's not very long) have I witnessed as big a hit as Closer. Closer is a rarity as far as EDM-centric songs go as it was #1 on the billboard's top 100 chart for 11 straight weeks (that's the 2nd longest time in history!) The only other EDM song (I use 'EDM' loosely) that's had the same success has been This is What you Came For by two of the biggest artists in the business, Calvin Harris, and her majesty Rihanna. With 1.4 BILLION views on YouTube it's safe to say that if you somehow haven't heard about the Chainsmokers before, now they are on your radar!
I've actually heard it so many times that I've gotten sick of the original and can only get through it by listening to R3hab's remix.
5. The Chainsmokers are Sexy

Sex sells and everyone knows that. From the sound of their name to the way they carry themselves the Chainsmokers ooze sex appeal. Even their live performances sizzle!
When showing my female friends pictures of various DJs the Chainsmokers were consistently deemed attractive. Specifically the guy on the right - I'm a straight male and even I find him dreamy.

6. Collaborations
They've collaborated with Daya for Don't Let me Down, Charlee for Inside Out, Halsey for Closer and recently partnered up with Coldplay for Something Just like This. I expect many more of these in 2017 and collabs are always a great sign that artists are maturing.

This isn't another reason but by the time you are reading this they will have already released their debut studio album Memories...Do Not Open and I wouldn't be at all surprised if a couple of their songs make it into the TOP 10 of the Billboard top 100.
Thanks for reading! I love hearing back from people who have read the post and whether you love them or can't stand them you've got to admit the Chainsmokers are doing pretty well for themselves.
